Symphyotrichum undulatum
wavy leaf aster
Symphyotrichum undulatum is known for its late-season blooms. The plant produces numerous small, white to pale lavender flowers with a yellow center, often seen from late summer into fall. These blooms are borne in loose clusters, and the plant itself has a clumping habit, reaching around 3-5 feet in height. Wavy leaf aster is found in dry to average soils and prefers part sun.
Wavy leaf aster flowers are a key nectar source for many butterflies, including the painted lady (Vanessa cardui), which can often be seen sipping from its blossoms in the late summer.
