Plant information
Don’t let the alternative common name of Rose Milkweed, "Swamp" milkweed deter you from adding this delight to your garden. One of our favorites here at Blue Stem, Asclepias incarnata produces gorgeous purple-pink flower heads, and the scent…reminscent of jasmine and vanilla.
Swamp milkweed, newly re-nicknamed as "Rose milkweed", has much thinner leaves than the other Asclepias, and the seed pods tend to take longer to dry out, allowing for some great winter interest.
This would be an excellent plant for an average to wet location, it would thrive around a pond or other water feature. It tolerates a wide range of soil conditions so consider this lovely plant for your project. This milkweed is a good choice for gardens as it doesn't spread as readily as Asclepias syriaca.
As with the other Asclepias, this is an important host plant for the Monarch caterpillar, and is a quality nectar source for butterflies and hummingbirds.
