Parthenocissus quinquefolia
Virgina creeper
Wait! Don't leave this product page, hear us out! There are native plants that have casually been thought of as nothing-to-write-home-about and Virginia Creeper may have fallen in that category. Not "fit" for a cultivated setting...BUT WAIT...
Do you want a vine that is absolutely stunning in the fall? Has beautiful berries for birds? Grows easily without a lot of fuss. Want something to cover one of our iconic low New England rock walls? Or to cover a maybe-not-so-non-iconic chain-link fence looking over your neighbors deck? Virginia creeper might be the plant for you.
Virginia creeper puts on the best fall color in full sun, but is also quite happy in part sun. When walking through the woods you'll see the color differences in the fall depending on its location. Aim for moist, average, or dry soil. That is in order of its preferences! But again, its not a fussy plant.
Fun fact:
Parthenocissus = Greek for "virgin ivy" and quinquefolia = five-leaved
