We nerd out on this project every year to pick a variety of species that fill many niches. From above ground heights, to root structures, seasonal growth and flowering, to quick growing plants to slow to mature plants, and everything in-between. We even include nitrogen-fixing plants to help your soil.

- Please note that most native seeds need to be sown in the fall. They need winter to unlock their ability to germinate in warmer weather. These seeds should be sown prior to winter or be put in the fridge to be sown next fall.

Note:
**Echinacea purpurea (purple coneflower) is not quite native to New England. However, it is included in Blue Stem Natives' seed mixes because:
1) it has high ecological value
2) plays well in a meadow mix
3) is so well known to the general community as a "native plant" that it gives a signal to those in communities that something native is growing and that the newly-establishing-meadow is purposeful.
